Multiplan Empreendimentos S.A. initiated pre-leasing of ParkShoppingCanoas, the company's 19th project in the country. Located in the city of Canoas, state of Rio Grande do Sul, the mall, in its first phase, will contain 48 million m2 of gross leasable area (GLA), featuring an innovative architectural design and a large entertainment and services area distributed amongst 258 stores.
 
The project will offer a hypermarket, ice-skating rink, workout academy, indoor amusement park, five movie theaters (stadium category), six restaurants with balconies facing the Getúlio Vargas City Park (known locally as "Capão do Corvo") and a food court with 28 separate operators. In addition, there will be 2,500 parking spaces, of which approximately 1,000 will be covered. The design also permits future development of mixed-use projects.
 
Multiplan will have an 80% stake in the shopping center and 94.7% of the cost of project construction. The opening is planned for the second half of 2016. This is Multiplan’s second shopping center in the state. The group also owns and operates BarraShoppingSul in the capital Porto Alegre, opened in 2008.
 
Part of the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, Canoas is strategically located in an area with a strong and developed industrial sector, encompassing approximately 1,900 domestic and international companies. They include petrochemical and footwear complexes, metal transformation, steel and logistics companies. The city has Rio Grande do Sul’s third largest urban population and boasts the second highest GDP in the state, behind only the capital.
 
The shopping center's area of influence covers an estimated 545,000 inhabitants, including residents of the city of Canoas and surrounding regions, of which 81% correspond to the A, B and C social classes. The project should also attract populations from nearby cities in the Rio dos Sinos Valley.
