BarraShopping Medical Center inaugurates expansion with 11 new clinics

The BarraShopping Medical Center inaugurated its first expansion on April 19. With an investment of R$ 25 million by the mall's management, the new area contains 3,500 m2 and houses 11 new clinics of a number of different specialties. This further increases the number of medical services available in the BarraShopping complex in Rio de Janeiro, the benchmark in terms of Rio's shopping and leisure centers.

The new operations span the range from beauty and general well being to cardiology, urology and dentistry and include a modern diagnostic imaging laboratory.

One of the great new features of the new medical center is Richet Medicina & Diagnóstico. With 1,300 m2 — distributed over two floors — and representing an investment of R$ 15 million, the facility will offer a wide checklist of laboratory tests and a comprehensive set of imaging exams: MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, PET-CT, mammography, ultrasound, bone densitometry, echocardiography and digital x-rays.

In terms of beauty and overall well-being, the expansion will feature All Clinik, run by dermatologist Karla Assed, known for celebrity skin care, in partnership with endocrinologist Isabela Bussade. The clinic's innovative advantage is to join together in one place a set of comprehensive services related to all aspects of beauty, aesthetics, health and well-being, including dermatology, endocrinology, gynecology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, sports medicine, nutrition and psychology.

"With the good health of a young person a bit more than 20 years old, the BarraShopping Medical Center is a point of reference not only because of its pioneering spirit, but also and especially because it offers what is the best of today's medical care. When we created the Medical Center inside a shopping mall, our goal was to bring clients the opportunity to turn the visit to the doctor into an experience that ends in pleasure. For instance, like a mother who buys an ice cream after a child takes a blood test,” said José Isaac Perez, president of Multiplan.

The Medical Center also offers a convenience space with rest areas, lounges, a cafeteria and an outdoor deck overlooking Barra da Tijuca.

With more than 20 years of existence  —it opened in December 1994 – and a pioneer in Brazil in the multipurpose use concept, the BarraShopping Medical Center's 11,000 m2 space houses more than 150 doctors in about 40 clinics, laboratories, a Pediatric Clinic and a Day Hospital operating 24/7. More than 10,000 people per day circulate in the area, with an entire Mall as the waiting room for their medical appointments.

The Medical Center also has a fully equipped Convention Center for courses, lectures, seminars and conferences, available to medical professionals and companies, universities and other institutions. In 2014, the entire Medical Center and the Convention Center were revamped and modernized, with new flooring, furniture, landscaping and bathroom reforms.
