Initiative ed a large crowd in a joint action to clean up the beaches in the Barra da Tijuca region
BarraShopping and VillageMall, Multiplan shopping centers, announce sponsorship of the #AqueleAbraço project. The action, created by Route Brasil - an organization that aims to create solutions for the impact that human consumption generates in natural environments - took place on World Oceans Day, celebrated on June 8. On the date, starting at 9 a.m., volunteers gathered on several of Barra da Tijuca, Reserve and Recreio beaches for a symbolic action and joint effort to clean the waterfront.
“Our expectation is that, as of this Aquele Abraço (The Big Hug) event, people will present better behavior and take a more critical look at the impact that our consumption causes in the oceans,” said Simão Felippe, presidente of Route Brasil. The project aimed to bring together 18,000 people who, holding hands in front of the sea, symbolize a big hug to the ocean of Barra da Tijuca. After the action, the volunteers cleaned up the beaches. "With this number of volunteers, this was certainly the largest joint effort in the world", adds Simon.
In addition to the projects, the BarraShopping Medical Center will also be part of the project as a strategic partner and will offer ambulances that will support the event at some of the #AqueleAbraço's points of operation.
To facilitate public participation, #AqueleAbraço set up 103 meeting points along the 18.3 km that comprise the strip of sand between the beaches of Pepe - Barra da Tijuca and Recreio dos Bandeirantes.
