Seen by more than 330,000 people so far in Brazil, the international exhibition “The Art of the Brick®” returns to Rio de Janeiro with the support of the Shopping VillageMall. To meet the demands of the public in Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition will run until August 6, with tickets at regular prices.
The exhibition is the only one of its kind in the world with 83 stunning sculptures in a new genre: exceptional works of art in breathtaking environments created with over one million LEGO® blocks.
"The Art of The Brick” has been a total success since arriving in Brazil and it gives us great pleasure to welcome it to the VillageMall. With our events and shows we are always seeking to promote culture for the general public and the visit of the exhibition for the mall fits perfectly in this mission," says Gabriel Palumbo, superintendent of VillageMall.
Whether real or imagined, the characters and objects created by artist Nathan Sawaya leave visitors completely speechless. This traveling exhibition is one of the most extraordinary and innovative exhibits of the last decades, impacting people of all ages.
The Exhibition
The Art of the Brick® was introduced in April 2007 in the American city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Since then, the exhibition has been put on in more than 80 museums and venues in major U.S. cities, and has also been seen in countries such as Belgium, Ireland, China, Israel, Singapore, France, South Africa, Australia, Switzerland, Spain and Russia It has been visited by more than ten million people and celebrated by the press around the world with adjectives such as "remarkable" and "contagious." "Do not miss it," said the New York Post in its review, on the occasion of the premier of the exhibition in New York.
Created by the North American artist Nathan Sawaya, called by by CNN North America "mandatory" ("One of the Top 10 Must See Global Exhibitions"), the exhibition arrives in Barra da Tijuca in a presentation organized by Ring Produções Culturais.
Among the most impressive and unexpected 3D creations, The Art of the Brick® features reconstructions of universally known works of art such as Rodin's "The Thinker," Edvard Munch's "Venus de Milo," "The Scream,” in which the hands and head explode into a third dimension - and "The Kiss," by Gustav Klimt.
In various areas, the visitor comes face to face with a Buddha or huge sculptures such as the impressive 6-meter-long T-Rex skeleton made with 80,020 LEGO® bricks. Other works are new creations of the artist's imagination, such as a blue swimmer or a yellow man who opens his chest to reveal a treasure trove of LEGO® bricks, as well as human figures and other amazing sculptures.
