MorumbiShopping inaugurates 630 m2, 250-seat theater

MorumbiShopping in São Paulo is the newest venture of the Multiplan group to inaugurate a theater. Further enriching its mix, the mall opens the doors of Teatro MorumbiShopping on May 20, with the debut of the play Para Tão Longo Amor.

Featuring a total area of 630 m² and located on the G1 floor of the mall, the theater can accommodate 250 people and is equipped with three special seats for the obese, five first row locations intended for wheelchairs and three seats for people with special needs. The seats are covered with Burgundy fabric and have a flame-retardant treatment. The theater also has a modern and complete sound and light rider and a 67.5 m² stage. The downstage area measures 9 by 4 meters and there are two dressing rooms with bathrooms. The external area contains a foyer, coffee shop and box office.

Through a partnership with the PadRok production company (Clarissa Rockenbach and Fernando Padilha), MorumbiShopping Theatre will put on eclectic programming featuring theater, music, humor and children's plays. The idea is to supplement the routine of regular theatergoers with accessible and quality artistic and cultural options. In addition to the premiere of Para Tão Longo Amor, other programming already includes  theater group Barbatuques and Cia Le Plat du Jour, which will organize a Holiday Festival in July.

The new space is designed to meet the entertainment demand for the approximately 100,000 residents of the southern zone of the city of São Paulo. "MorumbiShopping is a regional shopping mall. So, our theater must serve an area of fairly wide and diverse influences. There will be theatergoers, residents and people who work in the region who will now have here another leisure option during peak traffic hours in the city," explained MorumbiShopping's superintendent, Dóris Weinberg.
